2012 Santa Cruz Nomad Carbon, large, Rockshox Monarch Plus, Superstar Slackizer +/- 2 degrees headset and a Santa Cruz seatpost clamp. The frame has 135mm quick release rear dropouts and is made for 26in wheels, the lower linkage has grease nipples to help maintain the bearings.
I think this is the best all-rounder of all the Nomads as the more recent models are more downhill oriented, depending on how you build this frame up it is equally at home slogging around the Peak District or doing black runs in the Alps. Overall the frame is in good condition for its age, it has cosmetic signs of use but it is structurally and mechanically sound. IMO this is probably the best colour scheme with the matte carbon frame and the blue decals, scratches and wear do not show up like they do on painted frames. Obviously as a used mountain bike frame it has wear from usage such as scuffs, scrapes, heal rub etc but it has no significant damage. I have fully stripped and rebuilt this frame from scratch, it has smooth Enduro bearings in the top linkage, I've stripped, cleaned and re-greased the bottom linkage.
The previous owner had rounded off some of the bolt heads. On the pivot bolts so I've replaced all the pivot hardware. I've meticulously cleaned the whole frame with rubbing alcohol, applied invisitape to all the main tubes and wrapped the chainstays in self amalgamating tape. It was tricky to get the protective tape "perfect" because the frame is used and it had imperfections in the lacquer which trapped the water used in the application process underneath and caused a crazy paving effect when it dried out. I wasn't happy with the finish on the top tube so I removed the tape, rubbed the lacquer down with wet and dry paper and reapplied 2 layers of tape, it looks good now.The previous owner had removed the protective strip on the bottom of the downtube/bottom bracket area, I've replaced this with 3M mastic tape over all the vulnerable areas and then fitted a Rockguardz carbon downtube protector, this setup offers much more impact protection than the standard downtube protector. The shock is in very good condition, it works perfectly and has no external damage, it has nice clean decals and the lockout lever feels positive and solid. I still ride one of these frames, I've owned it since new and it's still brilliant, however, one downside of this model is the QR dropouts. I got around this on my bike by using a 135mm QR - 12mm conversion axle and a Halo bolt thru skewer, this makes the back end much stiffer and stronger.
It can be used with a 135 x 12 hub or if you remove the skewer from the axle it fits a standard QR hub, I have fitted this setup to this frame. Check out my 100% +ve feedback and my other MTB items...
